Teen Accused of Stabbing Teacher After Asking for Help with Work

A teenage pupil is accused of attempting to murder a female teacher after allegedly attacking her with a knife in a classroom, a court has heard.

The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is charged with stabbing the teacher at Milford Haven Comprehensive School in Pembrokeshire, south-west Wales, on Thursday afternoon.

It is alleged the incident took place while the teacher was helping him with his work.

Swansea Magistrates’ Court was told the woman suffered injuries to her head, finger and back and was treated in hospital.

The teenager faces charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article on school premises. He appeared in court over the weekend and was remanded into youth detention. He is due to appear at Swansea Crown Court on February 9. Members of his family were present during the hearing.

Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Briggs, the senior investigating officer, said police continue to support the injured teacher as she recovers from what he described as a traumatic incident.

He added that injuries initially thought not to be stab wounds had since been confirmed as such following further specialist examination. An earlier police statement had been based on preliminary information available at the time.

Officers will maintain an increased presence in the area in the coming days to reassure the community and will work closely with local secondary schools to provide support.

The Welsh First Minister said the incident was deeply concerning and stressed that “violence of any kind has no place in our schools”.

Baroness Morgan said she was shocked by the news, particularly having visited the school the previous week.

In a statement shared on social media, she said her thoughts were with the injured teacher, her family and the wider school community. She also thanked emergency services and staff for their swift response, adding that the police investigation must be allowed to proceed without interference.
